Brno

Brno is the second largest city in the Czech Republic and the first one in Moravia region. It is an important university centre of Europe – there are eleven universities.

Brno lies in the basin of the Svratka and Svitava rivers. The river Svratka is the main supply for the Kninicky Dam Lake, a popular recreation area. Brno is an important tourist centre with many historical landmarks: the Old Town Hall, „Zelný trh“ (Fruit and vegatable market)and its baroque fountain Parnas, Reduta – the oldest theatre building in Central Europe, a baroque crypt under the Franciscan Monastery, the church dominant of Brno – Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul in Petrov peak, the second Brno dominant – historic Špilberk castle, Tugendhat villa (recorded in the list of UNESCO world heritage).

Masaryk University

Masaryk University was established in 1919. It is the second largest and the second oldest university in the Czech Republic with its nine faculties:
